Self-Harm

Extreme concern and questions without end…

You might even be freaking out! You just found out your child has been hurting herself… on purpose. WHAT?!?!?!

Maybe you saw cuts on her arm… or she came to you and told you.

You have so many questions, and it can be hard to know what to do… or even to whom you can talk about this.

Why in the world would anyone do this?

Why would MY child do this?

Does this mean she’s suicidal?

Does she need to go to the hospital?

You feel overwhelmed and terrified… alone and helpless. All you know is… this is NOT OKAY!

You just want your child to be okay, but will that ever happen?

People self-harm for many different reasons.

Sometimes it’s because they are extremely upset and don’t know how to deal with it.

It can be because they feel numb and want to feel something.

I have been told by some teens that I’ve worked with that they “hate themselves” and feel they deserve to be “punished.”

The bottom line is that it is complicated… and scary… but absolutely TREATABLE.

You and your child don’t have to go through this alone.

I have successfully treated many people who self-harm. I provide a safe place to talk about this very sensitive topic.

Therapy will focus on increasing your child’s ability to identify and express their feelings in a healthy way and manage overall distress.
