Child Therapy

Concerned about your child and don’t know what to do?

Your child seems quieter and more withdrawn lately. Is your child extremely irritable at home, and you’ve noticed their grades have dropped? This is not like them.

“Something might be wrong, but I don’t know what it is.”

You have asked and tried to find out, but sometimes kids don’t yet have the words to express what’s wrong.

Kids learn and communicate through play.

Through play therapy techniques, kids can learn to identify, express, and process their feelings.

Using art and play, I will introduce coping and social skills to help your child better manage his or her feelings. For example, they will learn breathing skills and mindfulness in a fun way that is easy to remember, such as “sitting still like a frog” and “star breathing.”

In play therapy sessions, we may use puppets or other miniature figures to act out situations and help your child identify emotions, as well as learn different ways to respond.

I also may use children’s books to help teach a skill, such as “Shubert Rants and Raves” to model how to handle disappointment and take responsibility when you make a mistake.

I adapt everything I do to fit the needs of your specific child.

Working with you to help your child…

I believe parents know their children best, and you are with them WAY more than the 50 minutes a week I spend with them.

You are the best source of information about your child. I will look to you to notice and tell me about the behaviors, attitudes, mood, and motivation of your child. I will help clarify what is going on with your child and guide you on the best way to be helpful.

I will help you understand what is happening inside your child’s mind. What is happening on the inside is often very different than what they show on the outside.

You will learn specific tools and strategies that will be helpful in teaching your child to calm down, be brave in situations where they are scared, and increase overall cooperation at home.

Let’s collaborate for your child.
