Depression

Depression in Kids and Teens

You see them changing…

Has your child lost his or her spark?

They used to laugh and spend time with friends. Now they just sit in their room. They stopped doing the after-school activities they used to love. It’s a struggle to get them to come out for meals.

Does he or she seem out-of-balance?

They come home from school and nap for hours, then struggle going to sleep at night.

Do you feel as though you don’t even recognize your child anymore??

The complaints, the crabbiness, the moodiness, the irritability. What IS happening???

Maybe this is just a phase?

Kids and teens often don’t understand how they feel and may not have the words for it. You’ve asked, but they either can’t tell you or don’t want to talk.

They may seem okay and even happy sometimes, and you think, “Yes! This was just a phase!” But a little while later, the irritability and heaviness are there again.

Sometimes we just don’t get it.

It can be difficult to understand how kids can be depressed. What do they have to be depressed about?

There are a lot of factors involved, such as family history and current life stressors. Life is different from what it was when we were growing up.

Therapy can help your child… and it’s time.

I will help your child learn to identify and express his or her feelings rather than keep them bottled up.

They will learn coping skills and strategies to deal with life’s challenges, so they can overcome them.

I use creative strategies that are fun and engaging, such as building a coping tool kit and “box of awesome” to help build self-esteem.

Your child will learn how to manage their feeling… like riding a wave instead of getting pulled under when adversity hits them.

Depression in Adults

When everything is such an effort…

Getting out of bed in the morning feels impossible. You just want to sleep.

You get up, slowly get ready, go to work, do what you have to do… but it feels as though you are walking through mud.

The negative thoughts are overwhelming.

“Nobody cares about you.”

“You will never be good enough.”

“You won’t amount to anything.”

“They aren’t going like you.”

“No one wants to be around a depressed person, so stay don’t bother going out.”

You don’t have to do this alone.

It can be so lonely and isolating to be suffering from depression, but it IS treatable. In therapy, you can find a safe place to talk about and process your thoughts and feelings.

You will gain an understanding of the pattern that occurs with depressed thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and you’ll learn ways to break the negative cycle that leads to feelings of depression.

Let’s start your journey…

We will work to identify your values and ways to live the life you want.
